A Letter to Myself 10 Years Ago

Wrote a letter to myself 10 years ago…

A new decade is about to unfold in my life. It is still vivid in my mind the important events that happened to me 10 years ago. At this time, I would be at my last year in university, focused to finish my studies and finally achieve my dreams. I was unsure what would happen in my future but I was very determined. I can remember how big my smile was when I finally graduated university yet, unsure of how I would face the big world.

As the 3rd chapter of my book called life open, I’d like to write a little letter to myself 10 years ago and to those who are about to face the big world.

Dear H (in 2011),

Well done! You have reached a memorable milestone that you will remember your entire life. You must be worried about how your life would turn out to be but don’t worry so much, you’re doing great! Keep doing what you’re doing. Keep working hard to achieve your dreams. You’re almost there! Don’t let other people bring you down. I know how much you persevere to live up to other’s expectations, if not, go beyond it, but let it go. You don’t need other people’s validation. You don’t have to keep saying yes all the time just to please others, it’s ok to say no. Surround yourself with positive people. You are naturally pessimistic but learn to think positively. Leave out negativity, it won’t help you. As what you always say, good vibes only.

You are enough, always remember that! You must be so consious of how you physically look right now. You are starting to learn how to put on makeup and even go on diets just so people would compliment you. How you look isn’t the most important thing. Don’t think so low of yourself just because of certain standards, you are beautiful! Focus on enhancing your strengths and don’t fill your mind about the things you should have but don’t have. Learn to appreciate yourself. Be kinder to yourself. Most importantly, love yourself.

Lastly, live in gratitude. Always be thankful. What you actually need, you have them already. Learn to cherish them. You have a beautiful family who always has your back. They will always be there for you no matter what, through thick and thin. Even though it may not seem like it sometimes. You may be struggling right now, or go through something that would test you. But these challenges that come to you will help mold the person you will become in the future. Yes, it’s a scary world out there, however, you can face and overcome those fears. You are strong! If you need it, reach out for help, don’t be afraid. Like what they always say, there will always be light at the end of the tunnel. It’s not the end of the world. Also, be proud of yourself! You are amazing!

Love,

H (in 2021)

Be pretty, be happy, be you! H~
