The Truth About Happiness: The Road to Self-Appreciation

Let’s get going through the road to self-appreciation!

Won’t you look at the person in front of the mirror, humbly appreciate that person, and let that feeling simmer inside you for a while? It would be one of the most wonderful feelings you’ll ever get to have!

Self-appreciation is the process of appreciating yourself. A lot of people mistake it as being proud of one’s self. No, being egoistic is totally different from self-appreciation. An egoistic person is someone who only thinks of one’s self, someone self-centered, as they call it. But having self-appreciation is having compassion to yourself in order to be compassionate to others.

We aren’t perfect. All of us have insecurities and flaws. When we let these overcome us, this will lead to self doubt, or worse, this will lead to mental issues like anxiety, and even depression. This is one of the reasons why we need to learn to accept who we truly are and appreciate ourselves. Is it easy? No, definitely not!

Acceptance is the initial step to self-appreciation, and self love. This first step is usually the hardest to take but once you’ve embraced it, everything just goes with it gradually. You will then find that you’ve got loads of reasons and a variety of it, on why you should love yourself.

The road to self appreciation, and most especially, self love, isn’t easy to take. But there are simple, little things, that you can do which can be of great impact going forward down the road.

The little things to do to remind the person in front of the mirror, that he/she is important and special:

Be gentle: Take care of yourself.

Let’s face it, it’s in our nature to go hard on ourselves. We tend to have such high expectations. I surely am guilty of this. Well, we dream big, so we aim higher. Initially, this was what motivated me. We push ourselves too much. We put so much pressure on our shoulders, that when one stumbles, one falls harder. It’s good to be brave to take these challenges on, but don’t go to the point that you will tire yourself out. With this, you will lose your focus. Be gentle to yourself. Be kinder to yourself. This way, you are taking care of yourself too, not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally. When you’re kinder to yourself, you can be kinder to others too.

Reflect: Talk to yourself.

Keep up with the pep talk. This is one good way to counter all the negativity that most of the time overloads our minds. All of us have worries and insecurities that get worse with the pressure we put on ourselves that are usually triggered by the expectations that we aim for and the people around us have for us. Constantly remind yourself that you are doing great. For all the hard work you’ve done, you deserve a pat on the back. If no one can do it for you, just do it yourself. This is a great way to motivate yourself as well. You will especially be constantly reminded of your goals. Keep moving forward!

Appreciate: Keep yourself grounded.

With acceptance, appreciation follows. To be able to accept, one must be humble. Having a humble heart, enables you to simply and calmly appreciate. Focus on that. Relax. Majority of us have standards to follow, but sometimes these standards hinder us from appreciating the things around us, the things we already have. Most of these standards are influenced by social media, a very powerful tool that can either empower you or endanger you. Do not be swayed by society’s expectations. The world is unrealistically too realistic. Grow your own truth that you could live by. Nurture your true form and discover the wonders of your soul that you should never underestimate. As you plant uncertainties in your mind and heart, you will start to forget about yourself. Hold on to your powerful soul. Keeping oneself grounded this way will help one recalibrate him/herself to face the harsh reality and goings on. Learn to be humble, but still work hard to slowly appreciate yourself in the most sincerest and most amazing way.

Self-appreciation is one of the keys to finding plain and simple, yet genuine happiness. Remember, the better you appreciate yourself, the better you can take care of others.

Appreciate yourself. Love yourself! As everything falls into place you will learn strength and control.

Be pretty, be happy, be you! H~
