Get It Done: How to Avoid Procrastination?

Get things done! A few things to remember on how to avoid procrastination.

Procrastination is the act of delaying a set of tasks. It is the force that prevents you from moving forward with the things you have set out to do.

With working from home and online classes being the new normal due to the world’s current situation, my sister had been asking me how I usually avoid procrastination. I was never a fan of procrastination but I won’t deny that I had been a victim multiple times from when I was still studying up to now that most of my appointments, commitments and meetings are done from home. So here, I have listed a few simple tips on how I get things done.

Here are easy steps on how to avoid procrastination:

1. Make a to-do list and stick with it according to schedule

For guidance, make a list of things you should do and better yet, make a timely schedule for them. This also makes as frequent reminder on the things you should prioritize on.

2. Set smart deadlines and goals

Being smart is being attainable, you can only do as much in a certain time frame so setting goals every single day would be of great help. There are tasks that can’t be done in just a day so having a deadline is essential.

3. Rid yourself from distractions

This is something I know very well like all of you do. There are a lot of distractions around us that just keeps us out of focus. Little things like when doing a task online, you get tempted to open Netflix or Youtube, or having your phone next to you, you get the itch to check your social media accounts. So to be effective, resist the urge to watch your favourite shows on Netflix, log your account out so as when you try to log on, you get reminded of the number of things you still have to do. Also, try to turn your phone off when doing tasks so you wouldn’t get bothered to open it.

4. Take short breaks

As time goes on while working on something, you get tired and sometimes bored, so taking short breaks in between should be helpful to refresh your mind. Make it as short as possible though as you wouldn’t want to get distracted.

5. Reward yourself with every task accomplished

Keeping your focus isn’t easy so give yourself a little reward with every task accomplished. Grab a bite from your favourite sweets bar as reward or have something that will inspire you to get the next task done.

These are the same tips I have given my sister and she said they did help. Hope same goes for you! Stay safe everyone!

Be pretty, be happy, be you! H~
