Tried Mary Kay’s new skincare line for 3 months!

3 months ago, Mary Kay sent me a couple of products from their new and improved skincare line, The Mary Kay Botanical Effects. I gave this a try, hoping this could help me improve my then suffering skin.

This line is made from all-natural products, dragon fruit extract and aloe vera. I love aloe in my skincare but what caught my attention is that this had dragon fruit extracts. Dragon fruit is known to be the ‘super fruit’ as it is rich in minerals and antioxidants. It is rich in B-vitamins and helps fight skin-damaging free radicals.

This line is made for all skin types. This is also oil- and fragrance-free. The main reason I gave this line a try is because this is non-comedogenic and suitable for sensitive skin. These products are dermatologist-tested and clinically tested for skin irritancy and allergy.

The Botanical Effects line consists of 5 products, the Cleansing Gel, the Invigorating Scrub, the Refreshing Toner, the Moisturizing Gel and the Moisturizer SPF30. But I just got the ones I was sure I would be using more frequently and below are my reviews on them.

Botanical Effects Cleansing Gel

Product Description: A cleansing gel that promises a clean face and healthy looking skin after every wash.

Volume: 127g in a pastel pink flip-cap tub

Texture: Gel-like cleanser

Directions: Dampen face and hands. Apply a small amount of cleanser into hands and work into a lather. Massage lather onto face. Rinse thoroughly after.

Skin Reaction: None

Rating: 3.5/5

This cleansing gel is a good option for those who want a moisturizing cleanser. This is lightweight and foams well for a gel cleanser.

Botanical Effects Refreshing Toner

Product Description: A toner that promises to wipe away all traces of dirt while improving a dull looking skin. This has a lot of antioxidants that protect and defend skin by fighting off free radicals.

Volume: 147 ml in a hot pink twist-cap bottle

Texture: Liquid-like just as other toners

Directions: After cleansing the skin, apply a small amount to a cotton ball or pad, and smooth over face and neck, avoiding the eye area.

Skin Reaction: Light-moderate

Rating: 3/5

This would definitely my least favorite among the 3 products. This gave me a sting, more like a burning sensation on my very sensitive skin the first time I used this. I then put a very small amount on the cotton and smoothen my face with the cotton very lightly to avoid the sting. Anyway, this absorbs well on the skin.

Botanical Effects Moisturizing Gel

Product Description: A moisturizing gel that promises to quench dehydrated skin. This claims to moisturize your skin for 12 hours.

Volume: 85g in a white and pink flip-cap tub

Texture: Gel-like moisturizer

Directions: Apply to clean neck and face using upward strokes

Skin Reaction: None

Rating: 4/5

This is my favorite among all 3 products. I do use this together with other cleansers and toners (even though my Mary Kay representative suggested to just use the products in the line together only). This is very moisturizing, very lightweight and is absorbed well by the skin. This also helps in easy application for your makeup afterwards. If I were to repurchase a product from this line then it would have to be this!

Yes, it took me three months before writing a review since I had a love-hate relationship with this line. At first, this made me freak out as it worsened my break outs but my Mary Kay representative told me that my skin was just experiencing some detox then it will eventually become better so I used this every other day first before using this line every day and night. I also introduced this line using the cleansing gel first before the other two products. Did I experience great change on my skin? This did help but no drastic changes. Overall, this would be good for those who are starting to build their skincare routine. This line is mild and great for everyday use. This also has a fruity scent so if you aren’t a fan of scented products for your skincare then this isn’t for you but this is pretty sweet smelling though. This cost me around 30 USD (1499 PHP) for the 3 products. You shouldn’t expect a lot from these though, tell you, I learned from it. Also, the packaging is really cute too!

Be pretty, be happy, be you! H~
