What way to kick in 2020 with the most memorable travel I’ve had last year. Unveiling my California travel diary!
Early December, I traveled to California and went on a holiday there for almost 2 weeks. California was beyond beautiful and I had a lot of fun. It was such a special trip as my boyfriend and I got reunited after years of being in a long distance relationship. Everything felt so magical, every moment and every place we visited were memorable.
I arrived at San Francisco International Airport in the afternoon. My boyfriend, whom I missed so much picked me up with his parents. It was such a heartfelt reunion for both me and him.
We had dinner first and visited a couple of lovely sites in San Francisco. We visited the Palace of Fine Arts first, went across the Golden Gate Bridge, visited Fisherman’s Wharf and had a late night snack at In n Out. I totally loved how I was welcomed to the state.
Who says no to shopping? No one! It was just my second day and I already spent it at San Francisco Premium Outlets.
On my third day, we left early in the morning to travel to Yosemite National Park. But first, we stopped by Bass Pro Shops at Manteca and I was surprised with such enormous sports shop selling cool stuff.
After having lunch, we went on the road again and drove to Yosemite National Park. I was amazed. Being there was like magic. I couldn’t describe in words how I felt with the fact that I was seeing such gorgeous site. I have declared it my favorite place in California.
On my fourth day, it was another day of waking up early in the morning, earlier actually, as in 2AM early, to drive to Los Angeles. When we arrived in LA, we checked in to our hotel and freshened up a bit then made our way to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I dropped by the Line Friends Store to get some stuff for me and my (ARMY, as in BTS ARMY) friends. Our next stop was Lake Hollywood to see that iconic Hollywood sign. The day ended with watching KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball to support my faves (yes, that’s BTS!).
Saturday in LA meant a day in Universal Studios Hollywood. I had a lot of fun there. The Potterhead in me was really happy. For the night, we dropped by Santa Monica Pier.
The next day, it was time to head back to San Francisco. But before that we went around Monterey. I always enjoyed looking at different sea creatures so being at the Monterey Bay Aquarium was really refreshing for me. We also drove around Pebble Beach and saw the Lone Cypress.
My second week in California just started and I already felt how fast time just went by. As we were quite tired with all the road trips the past days, we dedicated this day for rest and just going by different local shops in San Bruno.
My 8th was a day for a random road trip and this was to Pigeon Point. It was another lovely view. I really couldn’t contain how delighted I was while on this trip to have witnessed and be at such gorgeous places.
We then drove to Rodin Sculpture Garden and spent the rest of the day at Stanford University. Now, I can say I ‘went’ to Stanford University (LOL).
One thing I always reminded myself while I’m on a holiday was to never trust weather forecasts. What was supposed to be a sunny day, rained all day long. It was a day that my boyfriend and I decided to visit the Golden Gate Bridge, hoping I would have a nice daytime photo with it but, lo and behold, you couldn’t see the bridge because of the fog. So, to cheer me up, my boyfriend brought me to Ghirardelli Square to have some good chocolate. We then went around Japan town and Union Square after.
The remaining 2 days of my trip was spent eating, shopping for gifts to bring back with me to the UK and more eating. I fell in love with Paris Baguette, a pastry shop in Millbrae. I just used to pass by them in Seoul but decided to drop by while I was in California. Next time I’m in Seoul, I won’t be just passing by this pastry shop because I just had the best cheese tart there.
The main reason this was the most memorable trip of 2019 for me and the reason why this trip was so special was because, (yes you’re seeing that photo below right) I just got engaged. I have written up a teaser about this surprise but it’s blog official now, my boyfriend of 7 years proposed to me and I am just so happy.
My then boyfriend, now fiancé, has kept this a secret throughout the whole trip and he knew better to save the best things for last. I felt like this was going to happen but didn’t really want to expect anything.
It was such a beautiful day, I got the daytime photo with the Golden Gate Bridge that I’ve been wanting plus I got proposed at there. I just felt so loved.
For our mini celebration, we drove to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and enjoyed the rides there. We also watched the surfing competition that’s happening by the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum.
This whole trip was just so special for me and I was the happiest during this holiday. I can’t wait to go back to San Francisco, hopefully, it would be this year!
Be pretty, be happy, be you! H~
